• Starfucker quits the band...

Dear Friends and likers of Starfucker,

Today is a weird day, as it is the day that we announce that we are going to quit our band. We have been thinking about this a lot and the time has come to make a serious decision. I don't know if there is actually a single reason that could be the one reason we do this, it's just a bunch of reasons and circumstances together. The bad vibe started with Stefanie leaving the band last year. That devastated me and Mattias a lot. Another, and really big reason is the lawsuit we have been fighting against our former management, costing us tons of money. In august 2010, during Pukkelpop, a bunch of our gear was stolen from the rehearsalroom, having to buy new stuff, and having to rehearse again with new and collected gear, and new people (we also went through some trouble finding a bassplayer), all those songs over and over again and being in the same situation, where it takes a zillion years until you can actually make an album, was just a step too far on the motivation level. We have done our best to play as good as possible all the shows we had, but we felt like we were going down the drain.

When a nice and unexpected opportunity came up the last few weeks to work with a good producer from Germany, Mattias and me felt like we couldn't just hand him over a broken and hurt band. So that's when we decided to take things to another direction. Musicwise I started having ideas that were so different from the former album, that it would be kind of weird to record them with Starfucker. That's when I knew I wanted to move on, I wanted to leave this whole mess behind, close the box and open a new one, but I couldn't do it without Mattias so, I told him I wanted to give tired Starfucker the chance to go to sleep, and asked him to join my new idea for a band: Veca Electrik.

Of course this is no good news for Lyske and Bastiaan, two young and talented musicians whom we love a lot and who have worked so hard for Starfucker the last year. We have of course given them some opportunities for the future. It was one of the hardest conversations in my life, trying to explain this to them, but being in this band for a year, they understood the vibe that we were on better than I had expected.

I wished, and so did some other people, that we had become the biggest band in the history of distorted guitars, I gave my life and my all to get to that point, and I took it to places I never believed I would go (in good and bad ways). We will have our stories forever, we had too many stories in the end... That's why currently I am at home, just writing new music, getting some sleep and working on a book.

On november 5th we will have a goodbye show at JH SOJO in Leuven. We have been a Leuven band all the time, and we played many many times in our hometown, so it wouldn't be more than normal that we finish where we started. We will invite some befriended bands to play that night. The goodbye show is a benefit: for our stolen gear, and for the lawsuit.Tickets can be bought at the entrance or can be reserved by sending an email to starfucker@telenet.be

Thank you , with all our hearts, for listening to Starfucker and supporting us, for buying our album or downloading it, for watching our video, for voting the many times we have asked you to vote, for wearing our shirt or our button.

And even though it might seem so with all those fancy pancy dressed up keyboardplaying hipsters all over the place: rocknroll will never die!
